29th-Aug-2006 03:49 pm - After loads of begging...
sunandsilence: (pretty in pink)
We went to Williamsburg. But I didn't get the phone. Frank is doing better, but he has to take all of these meds. The trip was good. Found the best bok on colonial clothing and their attached meanings ever. It's What Clothes Reveal, the Language of Clothes in Colonial and Federal America by Linda Baumgarten. If anyone ever wants to learn about colonial clothes/period details, that is the book to use. It's huge and heavy, but filled with incredible pictures and even better information. Great price, too. Only $65. God, I love the people at the John D. Rockefeller Research Library. If I ever get a book published (and I hope I do) they totally get a shout out. They deserve it. I'm trying to get my work done before school starts, but with Frank and his heart, and everything else that's going on, it doesn't seem very likely. Ugh. Oh well, at least I've got a good start.

27th-Aug-2006 09:47 pm - Wish I Had...

This phone:

The magenta Motorolla RAZR V3. Like that'll ever happen. I've had my phone for three years. It's huge, heavy, scratched up, and leaves a very creepy bulge in any/all pockets. I hate it, and therefore, I never use it. I've begged for the RAZR. Begged, pleaded, and offered all sorts of favors. It didn't work. Despite the fact that I fixed my parents' marriage and didn't tell anyone about their respective infidelities, I don't get the phone. The same phone way too many of my friends have. Oh well. Mom threatened to call the school and complain about how superficial teenage girls are (hello? seriously? seriously!), so I guess I haven't got a chance in hell of getting the phone. Well, it's strangely fitting, I suppose. We don't get to go to Williamsburg (Frank had a scare with his heart so he's in the hospital for observation or something like that) and I don't get a phone. Well, at least she (hopefully) won't make me the most hated girl in school by calling the principal. Keep your fingers crossed.
26th-Aug-2006 09:23 pm - Crazy Day...
sunandsilence: (nightlife)

It's been a crazy two days. We had orientation. It was pretty boring, but it was fun seeing everyone again. The school screwed things up. They had us meet our weirdo teachers, but no one has any idea when lunch is - or where our lockers are. We don't know what to do on the first day. Should we bring backpacks? Should we carry our stuff around all day? Do we have lunch together? These are the important things. Not all that "what to bring to class" stuff. Besides that, some of my teachers are kinda scary. Like Ms. Antoine. Eep. She took her shoes off in class. Ew. She wore all black - even nail polish on her fingers and toes. And she has a scary laugh. Creepy in the extreme. I think we found this year's Ms. Hyatt.

22nd-Aug-2006 09:45 pm - The Universe is Against Me...

It really is. Seriously. The trip got put off again. There was a leak at Frank's office, and he had to go there at 11 and didn't come back until about ten minutes ago - Mom went with him and came back around four am. I waited up for her because she didn't have her keys and didn't want me to leave the doors unlocked all night long, so we didn't get to sleep until five. We're leaving either tomorrow or thursday, but we have to be back by Friday afternoon for orientation, so I'll have to speed-research. Of course, that throws off the New Haven schedule. Ugh. We're going to have to rework everything. See? The universe is against me.

I just downloaded Kyle XY from iTunes. I thought it'd suck, but Steph told me to watch it, so I bought the first episode...and then bought all the rest. This show is awesome! And Declan...yum. Kyle is pretty hot, too, but Declan is my new McDreamy. Well, not exactly. But he's definitely my Late Summer McDreamy. Wait. I've got to go replan my trip. That's all for now, I guess.

The Williamsburg trip got put off a little for a bunch of reasons, so now we're planning to leave at midnight. Bring on the caffeine, huh? Looks like we'll be stopping at every Starbucks we can find on the way. The Swizzle titles have been picked, which is good. It's easier for me to work on something once I title it, I don't know why. Mom got me a few reference books about colonial times. It was nice of her and all, but the books aren't going to help me much. I can't use two of them at all, and altogether, I found maybe three chapters that have useful information in them. Still, it's the thought that counts, right?

I read New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. Actually, I read it a few days ago, but I'm just getting around to posting about it.  I'm all packed (well, maybe not completely, but I've packed enough), and I've already emailed/talked to my friends to warn them I'd be offline for the next few hours on account of Wburg, so... I think I might make it a regular thing, posting about the books I read - or at least, the good ones.

I finally changed my lj. I've been planning to for ages, but I kept putting it off. I think it looks pretty nifty, but what do you guys think? Anyway, we're leaving for Williamsburg tomorrow, so Nobody Wins updates will be few and far between for the next few days. I love Williamsburg (shh, don't let that slip to my friends!). There's something about that history-soaked atmosphere that sets my nerdy, writerly self (aka Satan) to feeling all tingly. Even better, I have an actual excuse to drag everyone there and make them go through the historic area with me: Swizzle. I think I'm really falling in love with this project. After Williamsburg, we're planning to go up to New Haven, so sadly, I don't think any of my fic is going to be updated. I'll try, though, I really will! Thank God for Dot (aka Dorothy Parker aka my laptop). Thanks to her I'll be able to get some writing done during the next week or so. Oh yeah, if you read and/or write Grey's Anatomy fic, you might want to head over to [personal profile] grand_delusions lj. It's pretty darned important. Now I've gotta go and deal with that pesky little thing called real life before the Swizzle chat at 9.
